Calm before a storm

After nearly seven weeks of unseasonably warm and dry weather, rain is finally coming to Northern California. During my brief stop by edge of the San Francisco Bay at Horseshoe Cove late this afternoon, except for the tell-tale stratus clouds, that a storm is brewing wasn’t all that obvious.

Complaining about the weather

OK, so I’m complaining about the weather–again. It’s January and it’s warm and there’s been no wind or clouds or rain for weeks. The hills in the Bay Area should be green by now and the skies sparkling, but…. This is what most of the days over the past month have looked like at the Golden Gate–minus the fog!

Yet another bridge shot

Today is the beginning of my Thanksgiving week off. Woo hoo! I didn’t stop during the commute so here’s a shot I took yesterday of the Golden Gate Bridge. I titled the post “yet another bridge shot” because I cross it twice every work day and consequently have captured hundreds of images of it.

Changing the weather

While waiting for the seasonal change from the month long Indian Summer we’re having in the SF Bay Area, I decided to change the appearance of the weather myself. The fog was indeed rolling in at the Golden Gate, but it was in contrast to a bright blue sky. I converted the image to black and white in Nik Silver Efex Pro, first tweaking the contrast and structure. I then added a white vignette to give the shot a vintage look as well as enhance the “weather effect” of the swirling fog.
